PRESS RELEASE
NATIONAL CONCILIATION AND MEDIATION BOARD
27 FEBRUARY 2017

National Conciliation and Mediation Board Executive Director Shirley M. Pascual invites social partners to the launching of the 2017’s Search for Outstanding LMC Awards for Industrial Peace on 3 March 2017 at the Labor Governance Learning Center (LGLC), DOLE Building, Intramuros, Manila.

“Hopefully, the launching of the search for the 2017 Outstanding LMC Awards will encourage social partners to participate in the search,” Pascual said.

NCMB will open the floor to nominations for the 2017 Outstanding LMC Awards for Industrial Peace and present the mechanics and criteria of the awards.

NCMB conducts the search for outstanding LMC for industrial peace every two years since 1998 to benchmark innovative practices and success stories of companies with labor management committees in keeping an open channel between management and employee.

“The objective of the program is to intensify awareness, encourage labor and management partners, and showcase innovations and practices on LMC among organized and unorganized establishments,” Pascual said.

“Winners from each region shall be chosen as regional outstanding LMCs and shall be qualified to advance to the national selection process,” she added.

Meanwhile the NCMB shall also be opening the floor to nomination for the 2017 Outstanding Grievance Machinery for Industrial Peace to recognize best enterprise-based dispute resolution practices of companies in the Philippines.

The Search for the Outstanding Grievance Machinery was first introduced in 2013 on a nationwide scale to give acknowledgment to the best practices and innovations in preventing and settling disputes at the enterprise level.

The search urges management and unions to comply with Article 260 of the Labor code, as amended, requiring management and union to establish grievance machinery (GM) to resolve questions in the implementation and interpretation of collective bargaining agreements.
“Only grievance cases directly submitted to voluntary arbitration may compete for the title of best enterprise-level dispute resolution system,” Pascual said.

“To recognize the parties’ best efforts at compliance of the requirements of the law, grievance cases submitted to voluntary arbitration shall be considered in the selection process.

Overall winners for the Outstanding LMCs and Grievance Machinery will be awarded cash prizes and plaques during the 11th National LMC Convention that will be held on November 23-24, 2017 in Cebu City.
